Privacy policy
What Hearth Keeper collects, why, and how to turn it off.
Effective November 2, 2026
Hearth Keeper is made by Caleb Friden (“I” and “me” below). This policy covers the Hearth Keeper app for iPhone and iPad and this website, hearthkeeper.starlard.dev.
In short
- There's no account. You never give Hearth Keeper your name or email unless you choose to send feedback.
- Your decks and matches are stored on your device and in your own iCloud. I can't see them.
- The app sends anonymous diagnostics and usage analytics, which help me fix bugs and improve it. You can turn both off in the app.
- There are no ads, nothing tracks you across other apps or websites, and no data is ever sold.
Your decks and matches
Hearth Keeper stores your decks, matches and settings on your device. If you're signed in to iCloud, your decks and matches also sync to your private iCloud database through Apple's CloudKit, so they appear on your other devices. That database belongs to your Apple Account: I have no access to it. Apple's handling of iCloud data is covered by Apple's privacy policy.
To remove this data, delete decks and matches in the app, or delete Hearth Keeper's data from iCloud in the Settings app.
Card data from Blizzard
Card text, images and set information come from Blizzard's Battle.net API. The app connects to it with its own credentials, not yours, and you never sign in to Battle.net. Like any web request, each one reaches Blizzard with your device's IP address, along with the game language you've chosen. The responses are cached on your device; you can clear the cache in More → Clear Cache. See Blizzard's privacy policy.
Diagnostics
When something goes wrong, the app sends a report to Sentry, a crash-reporting service that processes it on my behalf. Reports contain:
- Crash reports and errors, with the code that was running at the time.
- Performance measurements, such as how long screens and requests take, from a sample of sessions.
- The app's own log messages, and session start and end times.
- Your device model, iOS version, device language and region, and the app's version.
Reports aren't linked to your identity. I use them only to find and fix problems in the app.
Analytics
The app sends anonymous usage events to TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service. They tell me which screens are used and which features matter, such as:
- Creating, importing, editing, sharing and archiving decks, with the deck's format and class.
- Recording, editing and deleting matches, with the result, the format and both classes.
- Previewing cards and the card filters you use.
- The time period and options you choose in Stats.
- Changing the game language, sending feedback and leaving a tip.
- How much card data the app downloads and caches.
Events never include your deck names, deck lists or anything you type. TelemetryDeck identifies a device only by an anonymized, one-way hashed identifier that can't be traced back to you or to your device, and it doesn't collect IP addresses or track you across other apps.
Turning diagnostics and analytics off
Both are on when you first install the app. To turn either off, go to More → Privacy and turn off Share Diagnostics or Share Analytics. The change takes effect immediately.
Feedback and email
If you use More → Send Feedback, the app sends your message, and your name and email if you enter them, to Sentry so that I can read and reply to it. Send Feedback is available only while Share Diagnostics is on. If you email me instead, your email is handled by Gmail. I use your feedback and contact details only to answer you and improve the app.
Tips
The tip jar uses Apple's in-app purchases. Apple processes the payment, and I never see your payment details or Apple Account. The app only learns which tip was bought, so it can thank you.
What Hearth Keeper doesn't collect
It doesn't collect your location, contacts, photos or advertising identifier, it doesn't show ads, and it doesn't track you across other companies' apps or websites. I don't sell or share your data with anyone for advertising.
This website
This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics or third-party scripts. It's hosted on Google's Firebase Hosting, which keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses and browser details, to deliver and protect the site. If you choose Light or Dark at the bottom of a page, your browser remembers it locally; it's never sent anywhere.
How long data is kept
Diagnostics and analytics are kept only as long as they're useful for fixing and improving the app, and never longer than Sentry's and TelemetryDeck's retention periods. Feedback and emails are kept as long as needed to respond to you.
Your choices
You can turn diagnostics and analytics off at any time, and delete your decks and matches yourself. Because reports and analytics aren't linked to you, I usually can't find the ones from a particular person. To ask about, or to delete, feedback or emails you've sent, email starlarddev@gmail.com.
Children
Hearth Keeper isn't directed at children under 13, and I don't knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
If Hearth Keeper starts collecting anything new, I'll update this page and its effective date before the app update that makes the change.
